Why Cultivate Faithfulness?

Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
                                                Psalm 37:3 (NAS)

Over the last few years I've repeatedly run across this verse in my studies and each time it makes me think.  Growing up I moved quite often and it wasn't until high school that I was able to call one place "home" for an extended period of time.  I had no idea what "roots" felt like or what having a long history in one place looked like.  Now that I have been settled in one spot for more than 16 years I find myself getting antsy sometimes.  Quite often I think I'd love to just pack up and head off on a new adventure with a new start and leave behind some of these more complicated "roots."  But God calls me to dwell here - exactly where he has me planted - and do things that cultivate faithfulness in my life.  My "here" might change over the years (or it may not) but the call to cultivate faithfulness does not change because it comes from a God who IS faithfulness.

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Psalms 36:5 (NIV)

He calls me to learn faithfulness because he is so faithful to me!  So this is my journey of discovering His faithfulness in my life (evidence is always there but many times I don't look for it or see it) and learning to cultivate faithfulness in my own heart.  Will you join me in cultivating faithfulness where he has placed us?  Leave a comment and let me know what our faithful heavenly father is teaching you today - I'd love to hear it!
